One Novistador lands on his back. Only its mandibles and one compound eye appear, filling the middle of the screen. “Get—off—” He taps the knife button repeatedly. The eye bursts. The bug tumbles into the darkness below.
(A spiral staircase wrapping around the screen’s center. Saddler’s mutated form looms in the top fifth — only his giant eye and tentacles visible.) SADDLER: “Can you see your death, Kennedy? It’s just above your thumb.” The boss fight is vertical only . Tentacles rise from the bottom of the screen. The eye drops Plaga pods from the top. Leon must swipe left/right to dodge — but aiming requires tapping the eye.
The Vertical Plaga
The 360x640 view forces Leon to look up more than sideways. Chainsaws whine somewhere above. A prompt appears:
The Merchant’s hood fills the middle zone. His coat drapes off the bottom edge. “Stranger. In this portrait view… they’ll always come from above or below. Never the sides.” Leon scrolls a vertical inventory: Handgun, TMP, Riot Gun, Rocket Launcher (grayed out). He buys a First Aid Spray . The transaction sound chimes.

He fires.
Below: glowing insect eyes. Above: dripping slime. The camera locks portrait. To aim at a bug clinging to the left wall, you drag up-left — but the right side of the screen is reserved for the “look behind” button.

(A dark, circular well dominates the top half of the screen. Muddy stone. Rain streaks down the glass.)
Cultists drop from ceiling holes just above the screen’s upper limit. You only see their feet — then their sickles. Leon must drag his thumb up fast, releasing to fire.
