The shadows in the hallway stepped forward.
"Hello?" he called out, his voice cracking in a way he'd hoped was behind him.
Until the letter arrived.
It had worked for seventeen years.
The envelope was back on his kitchen table.
He lived in a perfectly normal apartment, in a perfectly normal city, attending a perfectly normal high school. The only anomaly in his life was his late grandmother, who had filled his childhood with stories of yokai , ayakashi , and "invisible threads" that bound the world together.
