“Who are you?” she asked. Her voice was flat. Compressed. No audio channel separation.

But the program was still installed. And the gear icon on his taskbar was spinning slowly, patiently, waiting for its next source.

She dragged in her first victim: Grandma_Ethel_90th_Birthday.mov – a file that always crashed QuickTime.

The monitor went dark. The room was silent. format-factory-full

The hum grew into a roar. The screen went black. Her hard drive light flickered frantically, then stopped. The program window expanded, swallowing her desktop icons one by one. The wallpaper dissolved into static.

When her husband came home an hour later, he found Elara sitting perfectly still in her chair. She was breathing. Her eyes were open. But when he said her name, she turned her head slowly, like a poorly rendered animation.

Her monitor now displayed only the Format Factory window. In the input field, a single line of text appeared, typing itself out: “Who are you

The hum returned. The file vanished. A PDF appeared.

No progress bar appeared. Instead, a faint, warm hum emanated from her speakers. The screen flickered. Then, the file simply… vanished. Not converted. Not copied. Gone.

The interface was stark. A single black window with one input field: And one output dropdown: Desired Format. No audio channel separation

“No,” she whispered. But the program was already at 47%.

At 72%, she forgot her middle name.
