Never probe ECM pins without the drawing. The 3412 ECM is sensitive to shorts; the drawing clearly marks “Do not measure resistance” on some circuits (like injector outputs). Follow the schematic’s test notes exactly.

If you own or frequently service a 3412, buy the genuine Cat electrical schematic (via SIS or a printed manual). The cost pays for itself after one misdiagnosed sensor or burned ECM pin. Avoid free “universal” wiring diagrams—they often omit the vital “connector view” that shows which pin is A, B, C, etc. For occasional use, consider a one-day SIS access pass from a Cat dealer.
