And from the television’s sleep mode, a single phrase would echo through the empty room, spoken by Captain Price’s voice but hollow, corrupted, endless:
JUST LIKE REAL LIFE. YOU ALWAYS CHOOSE THE GUN.

Leo was a collector of the strange, the forgotten, the ports that never should have been. But this— Reflex for the Wii, PAL region, with that mysterious trailing “R”—was new.
He slid the disc into his launch-day Wii, the blue slot light pulsing like a sedated heartbeat. The console whirred, then coughed. The usual Health & Safety screen appeared, but the text was wrong. Instead of “read the manual,” it read: YOU WILL REMEMBER EVERYTHING.
“Bravo Six… going digital.”
Leo froze.
Leo ejected the disc. The underside was pristine—no scratches, no data ring. Just a faint, greasy fingerprint that wasn’t his.
The level loaded. It was his old apartment—the one he’d rented after college. Low-poly furniture, blurry textures on the fridge magnets. And in the center of the room, a hostage knelt: a blocky, facsimile version of a woman he hadn’t spoken to in thirteen years. But the game remembers
PROCEED OR LOSE MORE.
Then the game started. The first mission was familiar: the cargo ship at night, SAS operators creeping through the rain. But the Wii Remote’s pointer didn't control a crosshair—it controlled his breath . Leo had to exhale into the Wii’s microphone to steady the gun. The nunchuk’s analogue stick moved his legs, but his head turned with the Remote’s IR aiming. It was clunky, disorienting, and yet… intimate.
On the television, rendered in low-poly 2009 graphics, a blocky version of himself sat on a blocky sofa, holding a Wii Remote. The in-game camera zoomed in. Text appeared: USER LEO BOWEN. 32. SINGLE. LAST CALL OF DUTY PLAYED: 2019 (MODERN WARFARE REMASTERED). But sometimes, late at night, his Wii would turn itself on
He pressed the trigger. The shop collapsed. The game whispered through the Wii’s tiny speaker: Good soldier. By midnight, Leo had completed the campaign. But the credits didn’t roll. Instead, a new menu appeared: A single mission: “Safehouse.”
His hand shook. The Wii Remote’s pointer drifted over the “B” button.
