ಬೀರಬಲ್ ತಕ್ಷಣ ನಕ್ಕು ಹೇಳಿದರು: "ಜಹಾನ್ಪನಾಹ್, ನೋಡಿದಿರಾ? ಅವನು 'ನನ್ನ ತಂದೆಗೆ ಮೂವರು ಮಕ್ಕಳು' ಎಂದನು. ಆದರೆ ಅವನು ಸ್ವತಃ ಒಬ್ಬ ಮಗನಾಗಿರುವುದನ್ನು ಮರೆತುಬಿಟ್ಟನು. ಅಂದರೆ, ತಂದೆಗೆ ತಾನೂ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಮೂವರು ಮಕ್ಕಳೆಂದರೆ, ತಂದೆಗೆ ತಾನು ಸೇರದೇ ಇರುವ ಇಬ್ಬರು ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಮಾತ್ರ! ಇದೇ ಮೂರ್ಖತನದ ಗುರುತು."

Birbal immediately laughed and said: "Your Majesty, did you see? He said 'My father has three children' – meaning himself, his brother, and his sister. But he forgot to include himself in the count? Wait... If he says three including himself, then without him, there would be only two children! That is the mark of foolishness."

Akbar asked curiously: "What is that question?" He said 'My father has three children' –

The farmer, though simple, was wise. He immediately replied: "Your Majesty, my father has five children: myself, my two elder brothers, one younger brother, and one sister."

ಅಕ್ಬರ್ ಬೀರಬಲ್ನ ಕಡೆಗೆ ತಿರುಗಿ ಹೇಳಿದರು: "ಇವನು ತುಂಬಾ ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ ಉತ್ತರಿಸಿದನಲ್ಲ. ಇವನು ಮೂರ್ಖನೇನಲ್ಲ."
