Lena traced the codes with her finger, remembering a boy last year who had scored high on everything. His mother had wept. Leo looked at her. For a second, she felt seen—not assessed, but truly seen. Then he picked up a small doll, placed it on his head, and declared: “The king is here. The king is cold.”
